OverviewIn September 2005, Anti-Coaliton Militia stole official voting ballots in Kamdesh, Nuristan, endangering the validity of the elections. Although Nuristan was not an area where American forces operated, Task Force Phoenix deployed five US National Guardsmen to provide an American presence and to ensure the elections proceeded in a haven for al Qaeda and other anti-American factions. Five American soldiers, a remote and dangerous province, an unknown number of enemy insurents possibly hiding among the Afghan National Army, unfriendly locals, the world watching, no written orders, and higher headquarters refusing to answer questions. It is amazing any of them survived. Through a series of detailed interviews, James F. Christ re-tells the harrowing true story of the Kamdesh debacle and brings these events to the American Public.
