He received a bachelor's degree in political science from South Carolina State University, Orangeburg, SC, in 2003. He earned several post-graduate degrees in education, including a master's degree in Teaching Skills and Methodologies from Cambridge College, Cambridge, Massachusetts, and educational specialist and doctorate degrees in Curriculum and Instruction from Argosy University, Sarasota, Florida. He has taught middle school social studies for five years in urban and rural school districts. As a teacher, he served as a Social Studies Department Chair, conducted professional development opportunities for teachers to support school and district-wide initiatives. He also developed content-level assessments for social studies teachers. Dr. Curry has presented at the annual North and South Carolina Council for the Social Studies conferences. Having a deep passion for education, his research interests include civic education, Afrocentric Education, and comparative education. He is a member of the South Carolina Council for the Social Studies, the South Carolina Association of Teacher Educators. Dr. Curry is the owner of Renaissance Publications, LLC. He teachers graduate and undergraduate courses at Claflin University. In addition, he is the administrative coordinator of Project Pipeline Repair, a grant program that prepare minority high school males juniors and seniors to become future educators.
