Overview

An unlikely series of events links Santiago, a young immigrant from El Salvador to Rachel Roth, an earnest, do-gooder teacher; her husband Stuart, a resort manager; and Banning, his eccentric, playboy boss, who indulges a harem of girlfriends. In a sleepy town near Palm Springs, California, Stuart is busy turning a laid-back hippy haven into a sexy resort for the rich and famous. Rachel takes on a teaching position in a near-by middle school. She discovers Santiago living alone and learns that his father had been murdered and his mother is missing. Naively, she offers to help.Santiago, a mediocre student at best, only has two interests, playing soccer and reconnecting with his mother. When the local Boys and Girls Club folds, he can no longer play team soccer. With Rachel's urging, Stuart convinces Banning, the flamboyant owner of the resort, into sponsoring a neighborhood A.Y.S.O. soccer team. By happenstance, Banning turns up to watch one of the games. After learning about Santiago's sorry plight, Banning exposes his own well-guarded secret. His emotional connection inspires him to get involved. And money talks.
