Overview

Inspired by Nick Hornby's Fever Pitch , this is an account of how football has shaped and influenced my life, but in this case rather than a huge team like Arsenal as the object of my desire, I support Preston North End, a team that rarely wins anything. Forget about the might of the Premier League, this is about the majority of football fans' experiences - hope, frustration, dismay, anger, and just the occasional taste of joy and exhilaration.Preston North End were the original Invincibles, but since I have supported them they almost crashed out of the whole league itself, as well as being just 90 minutes away from the glories of the Premier League on two occasions. But my love and hope never dwindles.Similarly, my experience of watching another nearly team, the England national team, has also provided me with similar emotions, as it has done for millions of us. This is the story of how football has given me the highest of highs (well, nearly) and the lowest of lows, interspersed with my own life, which has brought its own ups and downs, not just for me, but for my dad and daughter too, who support and suffer the same team. Three generations of frustration maybe, but ultimately three generations of togetherness and hope.From being mascot, to watching a Cup Final, to screaming at the telly, to scoring some great goals of my own, as well as watching some much better ones, this is a book all football fans can connect with. We all have shared memories when it comes to football. These are mine.
