Juicy: How to Live a Life in the Wreckage of Expectations

Overview

'A must-read for every wild woman who refused the straight and narrow.' – Winnie Dunn When the life you imagined falls apart, what remains? At 33, Sheree Joseph stood in the ruins of the life she thought she’d have: no partner, no children, no tidy timeline. Instead, a pandemic, profound grief and the unsettling realisation that everything she’d been taught to want – marriage, motherhood, security – might never arrive. Set against the backdrop of a world in crisis, Juicy is a memoir of heartbreak, healing and rewriting the narrative. In the wake of grief, failed fertility treatments and fractured relationships, Sheree searches for meaning and repair: forging forever friendships, tracing her Lebanese-Australian roots and journeying through sun-drenched Europe for a reckoning with the life she thought she’d lost. Written with warmth, wit and unflinching honesty, Juicy is a generation-defining memoir for anyone learning to live lives far richer, deeper, juicier. Praise for Juicy: 'Lush, intimate, funny and devastating all at once.' – Amani Haydar 'Sheree is a true force of nature.' – Bridie Jabour 'I mean this as the highest form of praise: Juicy is the craziest book you'll ever read!' – DrMichael Mohammed Ahmad 'An antidote to these dark and difficult days.' – Kathy Lette 'Sheree Joseph is a champion of the modern single girl.' – Sarah Ayoub 'A vital, unmissable debut … Urgent, witty and deeply moving.' – Michael Dulaney

Reviews

An immaculate conception! Step through the door and into Joseph's mosaic memoir about a life beautifully unborn. Juicy is a must-read for every wild woman who refused the straight and narrow. -- Winnie Dunn Sheree's writing is lush, intimate, funny and devastating all at once. This book is a powerful meditation on the pressures women face between the lives we feel destined to live and the losses we are forced to confront. Sheree shows us that it is possible to soar after being stuck and that there is a beautiful, bold, juicy life well worth living beyond the confines of expectation. -- Amani Haydar I've never read a book like this, a woman having so much fun while in so much pain. I was riveted by the grief and recklessness; and the way love found Sheree at every turn, although not necessarily in a romantic way. It's a testament to camaraderie, with some surprise stars and an honesty that made me understand infertility in a way I had not been able to access before. Sheree is a true force of nature. -- Bridie Jabour I mean this as the highest form of praise: Juicy is the craziest book you’ll ever read! -- Michael Mohammed Ahmad Read it and weep. Juicy is vivid, visceral and larger than life. This memoir is like a soap opera on steroids, written with so much tenderness and hope. Sheree Joseph is a champion of the modern single girl. -- Sarah Ayoub A vital, unmissable debut. Sheree Joseph finds hope and unexpected humour in the dark. Urgent, witty and deeply moving, Juicy is a book for anyone who wants to learn how to live courageously in a world in crisis. -- Michael Dulaney Laugh and the world laughs with you; cry and you get salt in your champers! Sheree's life-affirming memoir is an antidote to these dark and difficult days, finding the funny in the most poignant and painful times. -- Kathy Lette
