OverviewThis volume is a bumper edition. After a tribute to Hans Lohmann by his colleague Sophia Nomikos, we offer the proceedings of a conference held at the British School at Athens in 2023, twelve papers edited by Vassilis Evangelidis, Despoina Tsiafaki, Yiannis Mourthos and Melpomeni Karta, which gives us a rich overview of the application of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) in excavation and survey contexts in Greece and the Eastern Mediterranean. In the second half of this volume, we range from the Palaeolithic though the Neolithic and Bronze Ages into the Classical world, where domestic life and the reality of Amazon women are discussed. We are delighted to have offerings on Byzantine shipwrecks and Ottoman aqueducts in Greece. This volume finishes with a fascinatingly detailed survey of the history of female archaeologists in Greece, depressing for past times with their deliberate marginalization, but fortunately a very different story in recent years.
