Joseph's Tale

Overview

Saint Joseph is known to be the foster father of Jesus Christ, and is described in the Bible as a ""good and upright man,"" but other than saying he received messages from God in his dreams, little else is known about his life. This is a fictional story about the life of Saint Joseph, set in the historical times in which he lived. Some of the known facts and traditional tales about him have been worked into the narrative. We do not know if Joseph was married previously or not, prior to his marriage with the Virgin Mary, but it is quite likely, since Jesus is described as having brothers, yet Mary never had any other children. Step-brothers, we would call them today, the sons of Joseph from a former marriage. Women died in childbirth so frequently that no one bothered to mention it; it was unimportant. We forget these things today, when modern medicine has made childbirth safer and eliminated so many childhood diseases. A tale set in the history of the ancient times of the life of Jesus Christ, the Roman occupation of Judea.
