OverviewThis illustrated children's book will take its readers on a musical adventure of learning and discovery. We will learn about the drum and other percussion instruments. We will also learn about musical concepts such as the beat, the conductor, the roll and the double bounce. Our hero, Johnny, receives a drum for his 7th birthday, and quickly discovers that playing the drum, or any other musical instrument, is not as easy as it looks. So Johnny sets out to learn more about how to play the drum. He follows the band, when the circus comes to town. Soon after that he buys a book, then finds a drum teacher. The story is meant to share one young mans adventure of discovering the world of playing drums, with the hope of inspiring the reader to also want to learn how to play a musical instrument. The reader will already be aware that playing music is not as easy as it seems, and that it will take time to practice and study. Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationAuthor Curtis Cooper has been playing drums since age 10, and has been teaching drums and music since 1972. He has a B.A. degree in Music Education. As a young student he won several awards, and played in honor bands every year during high school and college. He is the author of several educational drum books, including; Chops Busters for the Snare Drum, and Solo Music for the Snare Drum. He has composed 7 award winning percussion ensembles, and has taught percussion at Lynbrook and Cupertino High Schools, Santa Rosa Jr. College and Sonoma State University. He has been teaching music in public schools since 2004. Dozens of his students played in County Honor Band, and several placed first chair in California State Honor Band.
