He is British, with a B.A. from Cambridge University and a D.Phil. from Oxford University. His numerous essays and books include: The Christian Revolutionary: John Milton: Puritans and Libertines; Shakespeare in Performance: King Richard III: and Renaissance Landscapes. He received the U.C.
