Overview

In the visual history of the western world, some images and artists have become real icons for entire generations of painters, photographers and the common man. How have they reached these heights? What is their secret? In this book, Max Kozloff talks about one of the most emblematic and fascinating artists in the western canon, Johannes Vermeer, showing how he was able to create refined images and atmospheres that still have the capacity to move and seduce contemporary society. Kozloff deciphers the symbols hidden in Vermeers paintings and celebrates the ways in which his works have remained so popular and loved to this day.
