Overview

This coming of-age story follows two nineteen-year olds, Jo and Lou. After sheltered upbringings, the two set out alone for the time on an adventure abroad to Athens in 1959. What unfolds is a journey filled with innocent fun, laughter, and the delight of discovering the world beyond home. Although fictionalised, the story is rooted in Jo's original journals from the time. It stands in poignant contrast to the experiences of their mothers, who, at the same age, travelled from Akanthou, Cyprus to pre-war London to build new lives from nothing. Yet across generations, the women share the same strong bonds of friendship, spirited natures, and resilient characters.
