Overview"Emerito Nacpil describes changes in Jewish society that Jesus sought to bring about in the light of his vision of the coming Kingdom of God as having drawn near at hand. These are changes in the foundation of society, in people, in social structure, and in the formation of a new community. Based on Jesus' strategy for social transformation, the book seeks to model a form of lay ministry for social reform in today's world. These forms include sharing in the vision of Jesus, in establishing society on its proper foundation, in the critique of law, in disciple-making, and in the reform of social structure. The author's model for lay ministry is founded on his rejection of mission as ""an activity of the church through which it expresses its witness and service and is the way it propagates and perpetuates itself."" Rather, according to Nacpil, ""It is the mission which is prior in order and dignity to the church."" This volume is the US edition of a book previously published in Manila by The United Methodist Church in the Philippines."
