Jesus Reimagined: in shared moods and emotions

Overview

With no attempt to adhere to generally accepted interpretations of the person of Jesus, readers are vigorously invited to consider provocative alternatives. Not to expect a doctrinally dignified and clinically sanitised Christ figure of ecclesiastical history, but an aside to conventional doctrine advocating textual adherence to its traditional beliefs. The writer explores ambiguous and hazardous aspects of the life of Jesus that have failed to fit comfortably into respectable religious interpretations. Divinity and humanness, matter and spirit never at odds, he reflects on a normal human being like ourselves who touched people's lives with calloused hands and grimy fingernails. A wandering man of sweaty feet, rotting teeth and shifty stench experiencing every sensation that we feel. Bigger than the Bible but not apart from the Bible, an unpredictable effusive person with no rules but his own fervour, his volatile emotions, clashing impulses and mood changes never hostile to reason. One who suffered human fatigue and emotional stress, who laughed and played, his multiple emotions parallel to our own in familiar tastes, passions, hopes and uncertainties. Stepping aside from a respectable, hygienic Christian culture, the writer pushes out the guidelines of accepted doctrinal principles to explore provocative human alternatives in the life of a poetically abstract and earthy historical figure. One who arrived in physical/spiritual contours that many failed to recognise. Imagining rather than literalising, applying hyperbole as well as reality, radical possibilities are considered, the writer's seemingly careless and suggestive statements not to be construed as undesirable intentions.
