'Jefferson's Vision for Education, 1760-1845' is a must-read for anyone who seeks to understand the fundamental principles that shaped Jefferson's vision of education - and our contemporary educational challenges. Cameron Addis presents us with a fresh, challenging and carefully crafted assessment of the complexities inherent in the life and educational legacy of the nation's symbolic father of American public education. (Jennings L. Wagoner, Jr., Professor of History of Education, University of Virginia) Cameron Addis's 'Jefferson's Vision for Education, 1760-1845' offers the best account that we have on the founding and early history of the University of Virginia. It is a valuable contribution to the rich literature on its founder's life and times. (Peter Onuf, Professor of History, University of Virginia)
