This can't be the end, it must be the beginning of a new series. In my 30+ years teaching Infants and Primary in NSW schools, books that stand the test of time have important features. They incite the imagination, allow empathy for the characters, show children to have value, resilience and need of recognition in our society. They give hope to children in unsafe or unpredictable circumstances. This book unashamedly tells the value of Scouting, for positive character building with worthwhile skills not only to survive but to thrive as they face life's challenges. Boys and girls can escape in the world of this book and be inspired into the joy of reading. I will recommend it to my friends with children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. It is a must on any family bookshelf. Patsy Taylor, Retired School Principal I really enjoyed reading this story, as it not only spun a yarn, but was a teaching tool as well - how to prepare a campfire, how to build a fire. I also liked the way the city kid, used to museums and art galleries used the underused museum in Kennedy as his information source, while the country kids taught Jason like skills and bushcraft. Finally, is there another in the ""Fabulous Falcons"" series? Cecily Harborne, Retired school principal. Author InformationBarry is married with three children and two grandchildren. He began his working career as an Industrial Arts teacher and later moved to the University to lecture in Technology. He wrote five technical books at that time, which were used by students throughout Australia. He has been a member of the Scout Association since he was eight years old and has been a registered leader for over fifty years. During this time, he has been both a Scout leader, a Cub Scout leader and a Commissioner. Working with children in this way has given him a close knowledge of children from 7 to 16 years old. He wrote two books for the Scout Association. Up until recently he was a keen golfer, but wobbly knees have put paid to that. He likes to draw and attends a self-help drawing class each week. He also likes to make things and works as a volunteer at the Scout Camp at Glenrock near Newcastle each week. This is Barry's first attempt at children' fiction. He has drawn on his own experiences in growing up and how the bush and Scouting helped him appreciate the world around him. He and his wife have travelled extensively both through Europe, USA and Australia. He has met many people from different backgrounds and cultures.
