Author Information

Hans Bjarne Thomsen is Professor and, since 2007, Chair for East Asian Art History at the University of Zurich. Born in Kyoto, Japan, he grew up in Japan and Denmark before pursing higher education in the USA. He received his PhD in Japanese Art History and Architecture from Princeton University, with a dissertation on the Japanese painter Ito Jakuchu. Thomsen has published widely on the visual culture of East Asia, and has a special interest in Japanese paintings and prints of the seventeenth to the twentieth century.
