Author Information

Deeta was born in the 1940s in a beautiful country hamlet called Norwood, located in the parish of St. Ann, Jamaica. Norwood is lush and green, with few houses, one or two shops, a Sunday school, and hardly anything else-except small landholdings and inhabitants who either know each other or are related. Deeta's mother was a local self-taught midwife, and her father was a farmer and landowner. Deeta attended school in Ocho Rios, a tourist resort with Spanish-influenced naming traditions. The area is known for its rivers, such as Dunn's River, Big River, White River, and Milford River. Deeta is one of six siblings.
