Overview

Powered by an all-new six-cylinder engine, the Jaguar XK120 was a simple two-seater sports car, given a flash of brilliance by its remarkable power unit. When it was introduced in 1948, it created an instant sensation. Beyond the original two-seater roadster, the XK120 added drophead and fixed-head coupe body styles, and through the 1950s and just into the 1960s evolved with more power through the XK140 and the XK150 ranges. The XK-powered C-Type and D-Type won virtually every classic sports car race, including Le Mans, while the XK engine also became the staple of many other specialist sports car builders. Launched in 1961 the iconic E-Type continued to showcase the XK engine, and Jaguar's racing prowess, well into the 1970s.
