Overview

My name is Jacinta Roberts. I am twelve years old, and I HATE MY LIFE. Jacinta doesn't want to give up dancing, just her mother's strict rules. With her best friend's help, Jacinta flees to Orion Downs where her father now lives with his parents. Luckily, Gran kept the upstairs dance studio after her daughter died. With a little cleaning and some dance music, Jacinta is soon practising again - without Mum's horrible diet. But there is one move that she just can't master. A new friend appears to help her get it right: Heather, the ghost in the mirror. Join Jacinta, Heather and the other dancers in the FIRST of The Dancers series. They train and compete, fight and befriend, hurt and get hurt. And learn to love life, and family, all over again.

Author Information

New Zealand born Cathrine (Cate) Marshall now calls Australia home because it has more adventurous ghosts, and less of her own. Her first book Mokes, Mines, and Mayhem was published in 2008 and she has since retired to write her series of middle grade books, The Dancers. Cate's short stories have placed in competitions; and have been placed in several anthologies. She is an active member of her local Fellowship of Australian Writers (FAW) branch as well as being Vice President and Competition Secretary for the State Committee. Cate loves creating stories about the people and places she encounters (and ghosts she dreams of meeting). Chelsea Smith is an Australian illustrator and graphic designer with a love for creating cartoony and playful designs with bright colour palettes. She graduated from the University of Newcastle with a Bachelor of Creative Industries in 2022 where she majored in design. She is currently undergoing her honours where she is doing research on designing interactivity in children's picture books. Chelsea has experience within a broad range of design fields. She has contributed illustration work to her university's student curated magazine Opus, designed a campaign for the Student Experience Network, along with working on multiple school and self-directed projects. Her current focus is on book design and children's book illustration but is always looking forwards to branching out into new and exciting design projects. Cree Marshall was born in New Zealand. In her working life she was a draftswoman and interior designer. Now living in the NSW outback opal mining town of White Cliffs, she devotes her time exclusively to her art in the dugout she and her partner designed and built. She is an assembler, a painter, and works in many other artistic media.
