Overview"The Catholic Church from the early times had celebrated same-sex love, especially among priests and religious. It was then called ""spiritual friendship."" It had also tolerated willy-nilly even homosexual behavior among its celibate clergy and prelates primarily in order to avoid scandal among the faithful, while overtly condemning homosexual behavior as sinful. Also, the Church's canon law recognizes marriage as between a male and a female. The remarkable thing is that the law does not plainly openly condemn same-sex marriage, which leaves the room for compromise. Besides, the word ""marriage"" is always used as a metaphor. There are three questions that the Church has to face squarely: (1) Can the Church accept same-sex marriages as valid and legal? (2) Can the Church treat homo-sexual acts as crimes according to the canon law when it is not a crime according to the law of the land? (3) Must bishops allow gays in committed relationships to serve as lector, choristers, and as ministers of communion during Mass? This book delves deeper especially into these three issues in the light of the Gospels and the teaching of Pope Francis, the Supreme Leader of the Catholic faithful, whose word is the final word on Church discipline and reformable Catholic teaching."
