Iterations: Art and Poetry

Overview

Choosing pieces from a series called ""Google Poems"" written during the Obama and Trump presidencies, Terry Wright seeks new ways to produce poetry in this inventive collection. First, Wright creates an original artwork and titles it. The title, now also the title of a new poem, is then searched in the Google Search Engine. A new poem is then composed, and sometimes collaged, using the resulting search prose fragments and links. Unsurprisingly, potential content becomes less intrinsic and more estranged as the search moves from search pages 1 to 10 to 100 to 1000. Iterations provides side-by-side comparisons of artworks with their companion poems, thus allowing readers to explore the correspondences and divergences between each artwork and its interrelated poem.
