OverviewMabel Winifred Redwood completed these memoirs at the age of 80, a few months before she died. She and her husband were posted to Hong Kong in 1927, spending two years there. With their three daughters, they returned in 1938, only to be caught up in the Japanese attack on the colony in 1941. Mabel gives a straightforward account of her experiences as an auxiliary nurse during the battle and the three and a half years she spent in internment thereafter. Her narrative typifies her unfailing good humor and determination always to make the best of everything that life offered.
