OverviewWhen I first agreed to publish this book, I thought it would be a nice project. As I proofread the manuscript, I began to realize the depth of healing being offered by Paulina. I started reading the exercises she included, and I personally experienced the benefit of the guidance she provides. The title of this book is profound in its meaning. It does hurt to become one's truest self. Only through self-examination can one grow toward Maslow's highest level: self-actualization. I was pleasantly surprised by the construction of this book. Paulina's inclusion of her poems deepens the message she conveys within these pages. I noticed that as she progressed, the number of poems increased. The courage required to write poetry is evident, but so is the quality of her work. Paulina's growth as a poet expands alongside her desire to forge an additional way of ""becoming."" I hope you will read her stories of overcoming and know that you, too, can achieve a form of freedom that comes from embracing yourself. I am honored to have been part of the publication of this important project.
