The son of Mexican immigrants, Luis J. Rodriguez began writing in his early teens and has won national recognition as a poet, journalist, fiction writer, children's book writer, and critic. Currently working as a peacemaker among gangs on a national and international level, Rodriguez helped create Tia Chucha's Cafe & Centro Cultural, a multiarts, multimedia cultural center in the Northeast San Fernando Valley. Award winning actor/producer Jacob Vargas has numerous film and television appearances, playing a wide range of memorable characters. His credits include 'Traffic, ' which earned Jacob a Screen Actors Guild Award and an NCLR Alma Award. He also dedicates his time speaking to youths on the importance of education and empowering them on following their dreams. The City of Pacoima recently honored him by including him on a mural at its new City Hall Building.
