OverviewThis text discusses the significance and value of isolated hyperthermic limb perfusion as clinical treatment. The effect of a combination of hyperthermia, chemotherapy and hyperoxygenation on solid tumours is described from the perspective of pathophysiology. The surgical and perfusion techniques are discussed based on the authors' clinical and experimental experience in more than 100 perfusions. The indications and contra-indications are also reviewed. The book describes the methods presently used to measure the volume of leakage from the perfusion circulation from the viewpoint of nuclear medicine, and discusses their advantages and disadvantages. One chapter is devoted to the clinical results, side effects and complications of limb perfusion in melanoma and sarcoma patients.
