Overview

The poems and articles in Island of Your Heart were mostly written from the early pandemic to the present. Several of the poems include a mixture of Greek and English phrasing, which have always been present in the author's bi-lingual life. They travel back and forth from a tiny Greek island to the States, interweaving the beauty of the two places and tongues. All but one of the articles appeared in the Buffalo News for the My View section. They reflect the importance of poetry, art, and listening in our lives, along with the complexity of relationships and current events during the pandemic. Perry S. Nicholas is a professor emeritus of English at SUNY at ERIE in Buffalo, N.Y. where he was awarded the SUNY Chancellor's Award and the President's Outstanding Teacher Award. He has published one textbook of poetry prompts, three full-length and seven chapbooks of original poetry, along with two CDs of poetry. He has hosted 6 poetry venues over the years in the WNY area, and he has read his work in Woodstock, Kingston, Albany, NYC, Plymouth MA, and Athens, Greece.
