Kamil A. Mahdi teaches economics and political economy of the Middle East at the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies, University of Exeter. Dr Mahdi's other books include State and Agriculture in Iraq: Modern Development, Stagnation and the Impact of Oil, published by Ithaca Press in 2000. The twelve other contributors to this volume have written widely on Iraq's political economy and either teach or work in international institutions in seven different countries.
