Overview

An expanded, radically refashioned director's cut of a favorite Palahniuk novel Injected with new material, Invisible Monsters Remix fulfills Chuck Palahniuk's original vision for his 1999 novel, moving a daring satire on beauty and the fashion industry even further into a wildly unique listening experience. Palahniuk's fashion-model protagonist has it all--boyfriend, career, loyal best friend--until an accident destroys her face, her ability to speak, and her self-esteem. Enter Brandy Alexander, queen supreme, one operation away from becoming a bona fide woman. Laced in are new chapters of memoir and further scenes with the book's characters. Listeners will jump between chapters and have a second listen to understand the dissolve between fiction and fact, taking them on a ride they'll never forget.

Reviews

A nice collector's item for Palahniuk's cult. -- Kirkus Reviews Palahniuk's tale of a fashion model who loses everything when she is badly disfigured in a drive-by shooting gets a makeover here, featuring new chapters, new scenes, and special design elements. It's being billed as a 'director's cut, ' which Palahniuk fans will definitely want. -- Library Journal Drafting Invisible Monsters in 1991, Palahniuk structured it like the issues of Vogue he loved reading at the laundromat, with disorienting jumps that forced the reader to turn lots of pages in order to follow the story to its conclusion. It was a perfect format for a time-shifting road-trip narrative that drags conventional notions of fashion, beauty, self-image behind the car. -- Booklist (starred review) Maybe our generation has found its Don Delillo. -- Bret Easton Ellis
