Laura Freeman grew up in Stow, Ohio, and attended Kent State University for several years before getting married and raising two sons in neighboring Cuyahoga Falls. In her spare time she played women's softball in the pitcher and outfielder positions for eight years and was on the offensive line, mostly left wing, of the Kent Twisters, a women's ice hockey team for seven years. She returned to Kent State University in 2002 and graduated with a bachelor's degree in communications and a minor in creative writing in December 2004. She began working for the Record Publishing Co. in February 2005 as a reporter and photographer. She covered Tallmadge for a year and has covered Hudson for more than four years. Her beat includes council meetings, new businesses, crime and features. She writes a column under the name, Freeman of the Press. She has written and photographed for several magazines and is a writer for the Spilled Coffee Chronicles of Invention.
