Inuit Arctic Policy updates and revises policy pertinent to global conditions and addresses current, ongoing issues of climate change, hunting rights and education, among others. Included here is the Inuit Circumpolar Council declaration on sovereignty issued in 2009. Other sections include Cultural Issues (communication, religion and archeology), Social Issues (health, children and elders), Environment (renewable resources, arctic marine use and transboundary nuclear pollution), Economy (employment, air travel and international trade), and Goals (self-government, security and cooperation among arctic peoples).
Policy-making is critical both to the future of Inuit and to the arctic. It is a crucial step to the full and productive exercise of Inuit self-determination and government. It allows a means by which Inuit values, perspectives and concerns can be effectively elaborated.
