Overview

Based on many years of practical experience of both authors in the semiconductor industry (semiconductor material and technology as well as quality management) this book provides a general overview of methods and tools in quality management in connection with and with special emphasis on semiconductor specifig topics related to quality. It also contains many generic technical and business processes which have to be detailed and adjusted according to particular company, product or business segment requirements. So, the primary purpose of our book is to provide the fast lane to practical quality engineering and management in the semiconductor industries. In line with this objective, this book is meant to be more a guide to practical quality engineering and management, rather than a scientific treatise. Although it has been written for the semiconductor technology community, it goes without saying that it is useful for almost all other industrial areas, since in a way semiconductor technology (in particular microelectronics) is a good model case how 100% stringent QM can be implemented in practice.

Author Information

Prof. J�rgen Wittmann worked for fifteen years in the semiconductor and photovoltaics industry mainly in technology, materials & suppliers and quality management (production, suppliers, customers). He conducted more than seventy worldwide supplier audits. His publications focus on silicon substrate materials and quality management. Today he teaches quality management and microsystems technology at Beuth University of Applied Sciences, Berlin. He can be contacted at jwittmann@beuth-university.de. Prof. Werner Bergholz has worked for 17 years for Siemens Semiconductor and Infineon Technologies AG in various positions (R&D, production, supply chain management, quality management and business excellence). He is a certified auditor for the ISO 9001 standard and an EFQM assessor. He served as Professor of Electrical Engineering at Jacobs University until his retirement in 2015, where his research topics included microelectronics, photovoltaics, LEDs and quality management and has authored more than 100 publications and contributed to several books. He is the co-founder of the QTEAM company and International Standards Consulting GmbH & Co KG. He serves as Assistant Secretary of the IEC Technical Committee 113 Nanoelectronics and as the European Co-Chair of the SEMI Regional European Standards Committee and the Silicon Wafer Technical Committee.
