Prior to becoming a professor, Schubert worked as administrative assistant to the director of police in Dayton, Ohio, and as an assistant district attorney and special prosecutor in Wisconsin. He earned his undergraduate degree from Michigan State University and his law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School. He is a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin.
