Between 1998 and 2009 he was Cassel Professor of Commercial Law at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He was a member of the British Government's Steering Group for the Company Law Review (1999-2001), which led to the new Companies Act 2006. He is now a Senior Research Fellow at Harris Manchester College, Oxford. He is a Fellow of the European Corporate Governance Institute, an honorary QC and an honorary bencher of Gray's Inn.
