Reviews

Klaus-Uwe Panther's Introduction to Cognitive Pragmatics (ICP) is a welcome addition to the growing field of cognitively oriented pragmatic research. [...] Panther's Introduction to Cognitive Pragmatics is an interesting and useful addition to the literature. He presents a comprehensive analysis of the data using theories from pragmatics, which he views through the lens of cognitive linguistics. In this, ICP is excellent. It could act as a standalone text to be used as the basis for an advanced undergraduate or postgraduate course or as the basis for a methodology for interpreting data. [...] Panther's work may present an important counterpoint to current theories and debates. It may also provide a rich source of worked and analysed examples which may lead to new developments within cognitive pragmatics. In summary, I think researchers interested in the intersection between pragmatics and cognitive science, especially those working within a cognitive linguistic framework, will find something useful or interesting in Panther's book. -- Jack Wilson, University of Salford, in Journal of Pragmatics 206 (2023)
