Intrinsic Motivation and Self-determination in Exercise and Sport

Overview

This is the first book to synthesise key research of self-determination theory as it relates to sport and exercise. It will be a trend-setter in understanding internal motivation and how to get the best out of performance and adherence. Due to the broad application possibilities of motivation research in sport and exercise, researchers and experts in non-physical activity areas will also find the book of use. A leading group of experts in motivation, beginning with an introductory chapter by the developers of self-determination theory, Deci and Ryan provide an indispensable resource for advancing research and application. Of particular note is the ability of many chapter authors to incorporate theoretical frameworks, which will encourage future relevant research. It collects in one volume the essentials of self-determination theory and an overview of research in motivation in a physical activity context. This book will be welcomed by motivation researchers in and out of the sport domain to further research findings, fill research gaps and improves research in motivation.
