OverviewWhy are we talking about a Federation of Planets as part of Interstellar Law - especially since no such body exists (as far as we know!) at the current time? There is a hope that the view of the entire 'pale blue dot' from Apollo 8 on its way to the moon - an Earth with no visible political borders - would inspire the population of the Earth to identify themselves as Earthlings, not tied to a particular group on Earth. Indeed, we have already moved in that direction with several nations joining the Artemis Agreement. These nations are committing to exploration and settlement of the Moon, Mars -- and indeed the future -- reaching to distant goals in space. Hence an alliance of space-faring nations is in place. Eventually we can hope that countries not advancing with Artemis will join a united Earth effort.
