Reviews

As the Arabic adage states: 'The world will never be bereft of the righteous.' The lives and stories of heroes collected in this book demonstrate not only the classical values of living in God's presence. Their combined testimony points to a significant, emerging virtue in the field of religion--the practice of religion as a means of increasing peace and understanding between religions. The testimony of Interreligious Heroes makes a convincing case for this spiritual ideal. --Sheikh Hamza Yusuf, President, Zaytuna College Interreligious Heroes demonstrates the power of religion to bridge, heal, and affirm unity. The heroes featured--from all religions--are a sign of how the message of religion can address the challenges of the day. It is an invitation for believers of all faiths to follow in their footsteps in order to create a more harmonious world, affirming the pursuit of wisdom, spirituality, and peace as our ultimate common quest. --Professor John L. Esposito, Georgetown University Interreligious Heroes brings together a remarkable group of interfaith activists to write bios of their interfaith heroes. The result is a galaxy of portraits of interfaith stars written by worldwide leaders in this all-important field. This book is especially important because this is the axial age of interreligious understanding. This volume is a joy for me, inasmuch as both David Rosen, who is being celebrated, and Alon Goshen-Gottstein are my own interfaith heroes. --Rabbi Yitz Greenberg, author of For the Sake of Heaven and Earth
