Tim Odendahl studierte von 2002 bis 2006 Rechtswissenschaften an der Universität Bonn. Im Anschluss an das Promotionsstudium an der Universität zu Köln absolvierte er den juristischen Vorbereitungsdienst beim Oberlandesgericht Köln mit Stationen in New York und London.
