OverviewWith French law as the basic legal parameter, this study will focus on the Principle of Territoriality of copyright in international distribution contracts for cinematographic works within the European Union and North America, in addition to the commercial and competitive effects involved. In this respect, we analyze the problem of geo-blocking, in order to ascertain the sources of this practice and the disadvantages it presents for all parties concerned, before looking at possible solutions that could be presented. The main objective of this research is to determine whether it is possible to find precise solutions on the current copyright model to resolve the conflict between territorial rights and the free international circulation of cinematographic works around the world, especially in the digital environment. In short, to solve the problem afflicting the European industry, it is proposed to eliminate regulations that hinder pan-European licensing and to strengthen support for the distribution of these works.
