OverviewThe Intermediate Reading Course Book is designed as a comprehensive Language Arts curriculum, which provides reading strategies for a solid foundation in literacy. Students will learn the necessary phonological awareness to read single and multi- syllable words, recognize vowel teams, and read short passages that build fluency and comprehension. The objective is for students to expand their vocabulary, comprehension skills, and become independent readers. The Intermediate Reading curriculum addresses consonant digraphs, beginning consonant blends, vowel teams with multiple pronunciations, strategies for dividing words into syllables, as well as a variety of interactive spelling activities. The writing component includes learning to recognize and spell sight words, evaluate stories, answer questions in complete sentences, and practice writing basic descriptive, narrative, and compare-contrast paragraphs. The lessons in the course book are aligned with the Common Core State Standards. Because text complexity plays an important role in students' reading progress, we use the Lexile reading levels to determine the complexity of each passage. The Lexile ranges for second and third grade are 450 - 790L. It is our pleasure to have the opportunity to provide your child with a positive, successful, and rewarding experience in reading. Table of ContentsReviewsHere is what parents have told us: The content is excellent, it builds confidence by teaching strategies that work and can be practiced at home or when in the car. My child now reads signs as we drive along, and I understand how to explain a strategy for words he is learning to read. The simplicity of applying a reading strategy is key. I like being able to follow my child's lessons and monitor her willingness to complete lessons at a pace I determine is appropriate.
