This book explores the possibilities of and the challenges in implementing Intercultural Education to address the internal divides in education in non-western contexts. The book examines both regional and international experiments on Intercultural Education and their relevance for Asia. It highlights the lack of attention to the possible use of Intercultural Education to address internal divides in countries like India, China, or those in South and South-East Asia, where there are internal divisions pertaining to ethnicities, castes, region and religion, among others. Santhakumar Velappan Nair is a former professor and currently a visting faculty at Azim Premji University in Bangalore, India. Santhakumar’s academic interest lies in the inter-linkages between development and education, and the ways of shortening the ‘distance’ between population groups so as to mitigate the ‘development differences’ between them. He has carried out a number of experiments that connect teaching and research in university to the practice in the domains of development and education.
