OverviewOver the past few decades, Austria has evolved into a multicultural society: around one-fifth of the people living in Austria come from a 'foreign country' themselves, or were born there to parents who did. General psychotherapeutic literature, as well as some authors of psychodrama publications, highlight the need to pay attention to intercultural differences between therapist and client in the psychotherapeutic process. This study first examines the extent to which and the manner in which 'inter-/transculturality' is addressed in recent psychodrama publications (literature review), before drawing on the experiential knowledge of experts in an empirical-qualitative study to identify application-specific factors within this setting. It becomes apparent that dealing with other categories of difference (gender, skin colour, sexual orientation, body, etc.) can also be understood as 'inter-/transcultural' psychotherapy.
