Overview

Interacting dramatises what the author calls 'the daft, mundane, serious situations and predicaments of people'. It is about: developing skills in drama, performance and getting on with people; life and how we interact with others with whom we share it in incidental and informal ways; what we can learn and teach about such moments; acting, play-acting, being ourselves, being somebody else; people whose characters we glimpse by watching them gesture, move and converse; taking part, learning, teaching; the co-operative nature of performance; and, what we can learn along the way. At its heart are sixty short, original and engaging drama scripts, with permission to copy and perform them in many circumstances, including formal and informal education. Guidance - helpful to both beginners and specialists - is provided on making best use of the scripts. They will be useful to anyone involved in formal or informal drama teaching and production. They are also a valuable resource for anyone whose work involves helping people - of any age - to reflect on how others perceive them, how they perceive others, and how we interact with people around us.

Author Information

Edward Denniston is teacher of English, Drama and Media Studies in Newtown School, Waterford, Ireland. He has written a book of poems, The Point Of Singing (Abbey Press, 1999) and is member of Poetry Ireland's Writers-in-Schools scheme. Also, he is part of the Department of Education's Second Level Support Service (SLSS) for teachers of English in Ireland. He attended Trinity College Dublin and has lived and worked in Waterford since 1980.
