Integrated Business Innovation: Case Studies and Frameworks in Design Thinking and AI for Business Excellence

Overview

Integrated Business Innovation shows how organizations can move beyond the buzz of artificial intelligence, particularly generative AI, and apply it thoughtfully to solve real-world business problems. While tools like ChatGPT and other large language models offer accessible and intuitive power, many companies struggle to extract lasting value because they fail to clearly define the problems they are trying to solve. This book addresses that gap by integrating the principles of design thinking with AI and other fourth industrial age technology capabilities, offering a structured approach to identifying business challenges and developing innovative, customer-centered solutions. Across 12 chapters, the book blends foundational insights with applications across industries such as healthcare, manufacturing, retail, government, and education. With a wide array of illustrative mini cases woven throughout the book including five expanded case studies in Part III, readers will learn how to recognize strategic opportunities, navigate implementation challenges, and unlock measurable business impact using AI. This book is a vital new resource for undergraduates, postgraduates, and professionals on executive education courses and will also appeal to leaders, practitioners, and consultants, equipping readers with the mindset and methods needed to innovate with purpose in an era of intelligent systems.

Reviews

“Combines strategic clarity with design depth. It equips leaders to innovate not just fast, but smart with empathy, technology, and evidence.” Dr. Feng Zhu, Professor, Technology and Operations Management, Harvard Business School “An Invention can be an Innovation if it creates recognizable Value. Likewise, a key engine of Value creation is Innovation. With his book Strategic Integrated Innovation, Vijay lays out a methodology for Innovation for everyone.” Marty Curran, Retired Innovation Officer, Corning Incorporated “There are plenty of books on AI, but few others if any that put that technology in the broader context of tech-enabled innovation, and that focus primarily on AI's transformational impact on key industries. Those foci make Pandiarajan’s book uniquely valuable.” Dr. Thomas H. Davenport, Distinguished Professor, Babson College; Research Fellow, MIT Initiative on the Digital Economy, Author of All In on AI, The AI Advantage, and Working with AI ""Bringing clarity to the buzz around AI, this book connects emerging technologies with human-centered design. It guides innovators across sectors to identify problems worth solving—and solve them with lasting business impact."" Kathy Fish, Recently Retired Chief Research, Development and Innovation Officer, Procter & Gamble
