OverviewEach of the five Inside Stories books contains 10 study guides to quality literature for a suggested reading range and include a variety of literary genres. The series includes classic and contemporary titles appropriate for gifted readers in grades 2-8. Step-by-step questions, written for use with gifted and talented students, are based on Bloom's Taxonomy. Each study guide comes with a cover page for teachers including: a brief author biography, a synopsis, themes, literary objectives, and companion titles. Study guides divide each literary work into five or six manageable reading assignments, focusing on vocabulary, elements of literature, the techniques of an author's style, inferences, and theme. At the conclusion, summary questions help students apply, synthesize, analyze, and evaluate each novel. Enrichment activities are listed at the end of each guide for teachers looking for multidisciplinary extensions. Originally written by teachers for gifted students, these ready-to-use materials provide an easy vehicle to teach literature appreciation and analysis to all students. Questions are designed to test student comprehension and draw the reader into higher-level thinking. Using these materials will generate creative and critical thinking and application to the reader's personal life, so the questions are open-ended, rather than focused on a definitive answer. These materials make reading and discussing literature stimulating and fun for both the teacher and the students! This book includes study guides for Johnny Tremain, The Wolves of Willoughby Chase, Bridge to Terabithia, The Little Prince, The Witch of Blackbird Pond, Homesick, Sing Down the Moon, White Mountains, The Black Cauldron, and A Wrinkle in Time. Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationJanice Montgomery is a seasoned teacher who enjoys the educational process from many perspectives. She was a substitute teacher in K-12 for many years before having the privilege of teaching in a self-contained gifted program. Those early years helped prepare her for 15+ years with gifted elementary students that required flexibility and quick thinking. She still relishes the opportunity to meet and communicate with former students from those classroom years. These students have specifically remembered their study guides as a powerful force in their education. Montgomery made a major career change as she moved into the administrative world in 1997 as an assistant principal and professional development coordinator. She currently works for a community education program that is working to improve the learning systems of PreK-college classrooms. She plans to continue writing in her retirement years. At that time she and her husband will thoroughly enjoy her two daughters, their husbands, and their precious grandchildren. Janice hopes to continue working with mentoring programs for new teachers and teaching graduate education courses once she transitions from professional development. Candace Taff Carr teaches fourth-grade gifted and talented students in the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation in Columbus, IN.
