She was a substitute teacher in K-12 for many years before having the privilege of teaching in a self-contained gifted program. Those early years helped prepare her for 15+ years with gifted elementary students that required flexibility and quick thinking. She still relishes the opportunity to meet and communicate with former students from those classroom years. These students have specifically remembered their study guides as a powerful force in their education. Montgomery made a major career change as she moved into the administrative world in 1997 as an assistant principal and professional development coordinator. She currently works for a community education program that is working to improve the learning systems of PreK-college classrooms. She plans to continue writing in her retirement years. At that time she and her husband will thoroughly enjoy her two daughters, their husbands, and their precious grandchildren. Janice hopes to continue working with mentoring programs for new teachers and teaching graduate education courses once she transitions from professional development. Candace Taff Carr teaches fourth-grade gifted and talented students in the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation in Columbus, IN. Carr has a bachelor's degree from Indiana State University, a master's degree in Education from Indiana University, and a Gifted and Talented Endorsement from Purdue University. Married, with two school-age sons, she has taught gifted and talented students full-time for more than 20 years. Prior to becoming a gifted education teacher, she taught for 10 years in the regular classroom in every grade except first. She often makes reading and social studies inservice presentations across the state of Indiana and served as a consultant on multiple textbook adoptions. In her spare time, Carr likes to travel to historic places, read biographies, dabble in photography and watch her sons in athletics and the performing arts.
