Inside History of the USAF Lightweight Fighters, 1900 to 1975

Overview

This book, in two volumes, attempts to explain the technology developments that evolved in the period from 1900 at Kitty Hawk through the ensuing seventy-five years leading to the development of the United States F-16 Multinational Weapon System in the mid-1970s. By 2017, 4,550 F-16s, all with the first all-electric, fly-by-wire flight control system have been manufactured for use by twenty-six countries. Awestricken birds undoubtedly ask themselves, How do humans do that? as an F-16 streaks by at over two hundred times the airspeed of the bird. This book strives to provide the how-and-why answer to that fascinating story.

Author Information

The Author has earned Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Aeronautical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology which prepared him well for the development (concept formulation, laboratory and flight testing, and analysis of large databases of technical and science content) of many advanced technologies operating in the world environments. The first quarter of his 40+ year professional career were with the Georgia Tech Research Institute as a wind tunnel engineer and with two major airframe manufacturers (in New York and Texas) developing and testing flight vehicle systems for the US Air Force. The middle half of his career was as a Federal Civil Servant (at Grade GS-15) developing and applying advanced technologies for flight systems and was Chief System Engineer for development of the USAF F-16 Multinational Weapon System. He served on three Presidential level technological fact-finding committees and several crash investigations (with multiple fatalities). Those achievements caused him to be selected as the Chief of the Flight Technologies Division in the Air Force Systems Command. His education and multi-faceted experiences were concluded as the Manager of System Engineering at the Northrop Corporation in California for the last quarter of his career. He is more than qualified to assess the ""big picture"" of climate change and alternative energies problems in his third and fourth published books: ""The Facts and Fallacies of Climate Change on Our Planet"" and ""Dealing with the Real Climate Change"".
