OverviewThe aim of this research was to evaluate the initial growth and phytomass production of two species of castor bean (Ricinus communis L.), irrigated with different concentrations of wastewater from a dairy industry located in the city of Pombal-PB. The wastewater samples were specified by determining the water quality parameters and identifying the castor bean species that best adapted to the conditions of supervision with wastewater. The project was carried out at the Federal University of Campina Grande, Center for Agrifood Sciences and Technology, Pombal-PB Campus. The experimental design adopted was a randomized block design, with four replications, totaling 32 experimental units, in a 4 x 2 factorial scheme. The experiment used four concentrations of dairy wastewater, in the proportions of 200, 300, 400 and 500 ml L-1; and two species of papaya tree, the BRS Paraguaçu and BRS Energia cultivars, grown in pots of 10 liters each. The pots were perforated, gravel was added and then a soil characterized as Neossolo Flúvico collected at the experimental farm was added.
