OverviewKeratins, a class of proteins that make up hair, are the bodily tissues that develop the fastest. Three layers make up each hair strand: the medulla, which is only found in thick hairs, the cortex, which controls the strength, texture, and color of the hair, and the cuticle, which shields the cortex. Roots, which are contained in follicles, produce hair. A layer of skin known as the dermal papilla lies beneath this one and receives nutrition from the bloodstream, which carries nutrients essential for hair growth. The visible portion of hair is dead tissue and cannot mend itself; only the roots are genuinely alive. To maintain and promote hair development, it is crucial to take care of the scalp and body. Therefore, expensive treatments that make claims to nourish and repair visible hair are typically little more than deceptive marketing tactics. Androgen hormones-typically testosterone-can constrict hair follicles, resulting in hair thinning or even hair loss. Only the bone marrow in our bodies is said to develop more quickly than hair. 90% of the hair follicles and hairs on an average scalp are actively growing, whereas 10% are at rest. Hair grows in three stages: the active growth stage, which naturally lasts longer for hair follicles on the scalp than on any other part of the body and longer for women than males. The catagen phase, during which hair follicles naturally shrink and fall out, is normal. The follicle will finally transition into the resting telogen phase after this brief time. The 10% that are at rest are these. Normal telogen stages are around 12 weeks, catagen phases are roughly three weeks long, and anagen phases span about five years. As you can see, losing some hair is common. About 100 hairs each day are said to fall out naturally. Most people do not notice that they are losing hair until they have lost more than 50% of their total hair.
