Overview

"This book presents the basic principles of information technology (hereafter referred to as IT) management. Because the book addresses both the technical and the business aspects of IT management, it is targeted to a wide reading audience, including: IT professionals (Chief Information Officers, managers, and project managers); Chief Financial Officers, general business managers, and other business professionals involved with IT; college professors interested in using the book for under-graduate or graduate course material; professional organizations such as a project management association; and IT associates who aspire to higher management level positions. The book demonstrates how the IT complex can be viewed and managed as any other company business unit which contributes to the company's ""bottom-line."" The view is based upon an IT management model that is business plan-driven; comprehensive of IT's management and technical functions; and inclusive of both IT and business unit responsibilities. The model achieves its business and financial objectives by utilizing the management concepts of staff leveraging, plan alignment, gap analysis, and right-sizing in the management and deployment of IT resources. From a technical perspective the model is information-driven which views information as the common denominator of traditional data, voice, text, and image processing technologies. A supporting computer platform, technology, and organization independent architecture (CPTOIA) and a systems and services organization enables the model's technical capabilities."
